THUNDER BAY – “Today is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day and all across Canada people are pitching in to do their part to make our communities cleaner and our environment better. We are blessed in Northwestern Ontario to live in a region of such natural riches and unmatched beauty. We depend on the environment around us to drive our economy and provide for our communities and because of that, we know that we must be strong stewards of that environment.

Over the past 40 years, we have come a long way as a country and a people in regards to protecting our environment, but we still have further that we can go. As a country, we can embrace new technologies and new sources of cleaner energy. As individuals, we can use less water, make our homes more energy efficient and recycle.

We all have our part to play and it’s uplifting to see so many citizens of Thunder Bay – Rainy River taking the time today and everyday to do their part. I send my best wishes to everyone for a Happy Earth Day.”
